Kabul: Star leg-spinner Rashid Khan was on Thursday named the new T20I captain of Afghanistan, replacing Mohammad Nabi. The 24-year-old Rashid has been named as the captain even before the T20 World Cup 2021. was made but he relinquished the captaincy after the announcement of the team. He claimed that he was not consulted regarding the selection. Nabi relinquished the captaincy after the 2022 T20 World Cup.

He said, “Rashid Khan has the experience of captaining the team in all three formats. We are very happy to see him again as T20 captain. “Captainship is a big responsibility,” Rashid said. I have been the captain of the team before and this is a great team with whom I have a great rapport.
Rashid has taken 122 wickets in 74 T20s for Afghanistan. Only Tim Southee (134) and Shakib Al Hasan (128) have more wickets than him in this format.
He has taken 491 wickets playing 361 T20 matches for 15 different teams across the world. Only Dwayne Bravo (614) has more wickets than him in franchise cricket.
