The office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, which is probing the case, confirmed that it had contacted Trump’s attorneys on Thursday with the intention of “coordinating his surrender” to the charges. Bragg’s spokesman said the Manhattan district attorney’s office has contacted the former president’s attorney to coordinate Trump’s surrender in connection with the indictment, and that further information will be provided after a hearing date is set.

The New York Times said the decision was “a historic decision that will shake up the 2024 presidential election process as Trump becomes the first former president in the country to face criminal charges.” Trump was the 45th President of the US from 2017 to 2021. Meanwhile, sources told CBS News that Trump is likely to fly from Florida to New York on Monday and appear in court on Tuesday. The hearing is likely to be brief in which the charges against him will be read out. Trump has denied these allegations.

He has termed the indictment as “political harassment and an attempt to interfere in the election”. Trump has also accused Democratic Party leaders of “using the judicial system as a weapon to punish their political rivals”. He accused the Manhattan district attorney of “doing the dirty work of (US) President Joe Biden.”

Trump’s lawyers Susan Necheles and Joseph Tacopina issued a statement saying the former president “committed no crime” and vowed to “vigorously contest this political prosecution in court.” The case relates to an investigation into Trump’s involvement in a $13 million payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016.
