BJP MLC R Shankar’s house raided, 6 thousand sarees recovered, CM Bommai said – Government agencies are independent

Tax Department Raid: The Commercial Tax Department raided the house of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and BJP leader R Shankar. During this the team got 6000 sarees and 9000 school bags. It is believed that Shankar, who is preparing to contest the assembly elections, had collected all these things to woo the voters keeping the elections in mind. All these things have been confiscated.

The raid comes a few days after the Lokayukta police conducted a search and seizure operation at the house of Prashant Madal, son of BJP MLA Madal Virupakshappa. Investigators found Rs 6.1 crore in cash and Prashant and others are being questioned. Along with sarees and bags, plates and household items worth Rs 20-30 lakh have also been found.

seven hours operation

The action of the tax department lasted for about seven hours and the seized goods were handed over to the local police. Haveri Deputy Commissioner Raghunandan Murthy said that if the MLC fails to provide the bill, a case will be registered against him after court approval. At the same time, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that this shows that government agencies are independent.

Who is MLC R Shankar

In 2018, Shankar was elected from the Ranibennur assembly seat on a Pragyavantha Janata Party ticket. He had promised support to the Congress-JD(S) coalition government but joined the BJP in 2019. He was one of the 17 MLAs who were disqualified. While the BJP denied him a ticket in the bypolls, he was made an MLC.
