In response to this, Akram had said, “After losing the quarter final match to India, I got a call from the Pakistan Cricket Board. Please don’t come directly to Lahore. Go somewhere else. I was the captain. I told the PCB officials that if I do not go to my home then where will I go.

Batting first against Pakistan in the quarter-finals of the 1996 World Cup, India scored 287 for 8 wickets. In this, Navjot Singh Sidhu scored 93 runs off 115 balls. In response, Pakistan’s team could only score 248 runs. Venkatesh Prasad and Anil Kumble took 3-3 wickets.
