Cried in front of the director after seeing 3 scenes, said – he would have cut it, the film was released and ‘Sambha’ became a classic character

Sambha’s character in ‘Sholay’ was also very popular. Although there were 3 scenes of Samba in the film. This character was played by Mac Mohan. Mac Mohan was saddened to see his 3 scenes in his film. He was so hurt that he talked to director Ramesh Sippy about giving less screen space while crying. Then the director told him one thing.

Mac Mohan had said in an interview, “I kept going to Bangalore and shooting for 3 months. But when the film was ready, I started crying when I saw the scenes. I shot for 3 months and only 3 scenes in the film. I told Ramesh Sippy crying that what was the need to keep these scenes as well. You would have cut them too. Hearing this of McMahon, the director reacted.

Ramesh Sippy gave this answer to Mac Mohan’s question

Ramesh Sippy laughed and said, “Look Mac, I have given you as much as I could have cut.” Not more than that now. But you remember one thing of mine, if this film works, people will know you by the name of Sambha throughout your career. Mac Mohan further said that don’t know at what time it was, in which Ramesh Sippy had said this. Same happened with me.

Mac Mohan had worked in many films before ‘Sholay’

Mac Mohan played negative characters in Bollywood films. He had worked in many films before ‘Sholay’, but he could never get recognition. But after playing the role of Samba, McMahon became immortal forever.
