A policeman and two suspected terrorists were killed and six others, including four policemen, were injured in a blast in a posh residential area of Islamabad on Friday.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has claimed that ‘four-five’ suspects and their handlers have been detained in connection with the suicide blast in Islamabad. A policeman and two suspected terrorists were killed and six others, including four policemen, were injured in a blast in a posh residential area of Islamabad on Friday. The spot is 15 km from Rawalpindi city where the country’s powerful army is headquartered.

“We have arrested four suspects of the terrorist attack in Islamabad and also detained their handlers,” Sanaullah said on Twitter overnight. According to his tweet, the other person in the car was not a woman as initially stated by the police. He was a taxi driver and was hired by the suicide bombers to travel from Rawalpindi to Islamabad. The Home Minister said, “The taxi driver is innocent and has no role in the attack. The terrorists had moved from Kurram Agency (tribal district) and halted in Rawalpindi. We have detained four or five suspects.”

The capital has been on high alert since that attack and police have taken several steps to counter the terrorist threat, including setting up 25 new check posts. Several foreign missions, including those of the US and Saudi Arabia, had asked their citizens to limit their movement as panic spread in the city. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. It is a banned terrorist group and has become active again after the Afghan Taliban took over Kabul.
