Janardhan Reddy had formed his party Kalyana Rajya Pragati Paksha (KRPP) a few months back. Reddy defeated his nearest rival Iqbal Ansari (57947 votes) of INC by securing 66213 votes from Gangavati assembly constituency. At the same time, his wife and his two brothers who contested on BJP ticket lost.

What is the allegation?
Nara Bharat Reddy got 80,744 votes, Lakshmi Aruna got 46,171 and Somashekar Reddy got 35,491 votes. In Harapanahalli, independent candidate MP Latha Mallikarjuna defeated Janardhana Reddy’s second brother and BJP candidate G Karunakara Reddy by a margin of 13,845 votes.

It was alleged that the KRPP supported Latha Mallikarjuna, the daughter of late former Deputy Chief Minister MP Prakash. Transport Minister B Sriramulu, once a close confidante of Janardhan Reddy, and his nephew TH Suresh Babu also lost the elections.

How many seats did Congress win?
According to the figures of the Election Commission till 10.30 pm, BJP has won 65 seats. At the same time, Congress has won 135 seats and is leading on 1, while former CM HD Kumaraswamy’s party JDS has been reduced to 19 seats only.
