Inaugurating the sixth edition of the two-day Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) in the Bangladesh capital, Hasina said the Indian Ocean holds significance not only for Bangladesh but for all countries in the region because of its geographical location.
Dhaka. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said respect and mutual trust among the Indian Ocean littoral nations is needed for a resilient future. Emphasizing on the above theme, he said that his country is determined to play its role for peace in the region. Inaugurating the sixth edition of the two-day Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) in the Bangladesh capital, Hasina said the Indian Ocean holds significance not only for Bangladesh but for all countries in the region because of its geographical location.
“We are committed to playing our part for peace in the region and expect all other countries to do the same to ensure a resilient future,” he said during the conference. The sixth edition of the Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) is being organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh in association with the New Delhi-based think tank India Foundation. Hasina said that being a coastal country, Bangladesh has been the center of maritime activities for centuries and is active in several regional fora.
