Netanyahu’s Likud party on Wednesday released guidelines for the new government’s policies, which include, above all, the expansion and development of settlements in the Israeli lands of the Galilee, the Negev, the Golan Heights and Judea and Samaria.

The right-wing government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu has made the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank one of its top priorities. The party expressed its intention a day before the new government was to take oath. Netanyahu’s Likud party on Wednesday released guidelines for the new government’s policies, which include, above all, the expansion and development of settlements in the Israeli lands of the Galilee, the Negev, the Golan Heights and Judea and Samaria. The names of the localities mentioned by the party are the names of biblical places in the West Bank.

Most of the international community believes that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal and an obstacle to peace with Palestine. Netanyahu’s new government is the most religious and hardline in Israel’s history, joining ultra-Orthodox parties, ultra-nationalist religious groups and his Likud party. The new government will take oath on Thursday. Netanyahu was the Prime Minister of Israel from 2009 to 2021 and is returning to power again after being ousted from power last year. He is assuming office at a time when he is being tried for bribery, breach of trust and cheating. However, he has denied these allegations.
