One policeman killed, four injured in militant firing in Manipur


Manipur Violence Update: A policeman was killed and four others injured on Thursday (May 11) in Manipur in firing by suspected militants. Kuki militants had ambushed the Manipur Police in Churachandpur. Apart from this, Kuki militants have abducted some civilians in Torbung Bangla.

Violence broke out in Manipur

Significantly, violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 when a Tribal Solidarity March was taken out in 10 districts of the state to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. Chief Minister N Biren Singh had told on May 8 that about 60 people had died and 231 were injured in the violence that broke out in the state. He told that 1700 houses including many religious places have been burnt. There is a possibility of involvement of many extremist organizations in the violence.
