Manipur Violence Update: A policeman was killed and four others injured on Thursday (May 11) in Manipur in firing by suspected militants. Kuki militants had ambushed the Manipur Police in Churachandpur. Apart from this, Kuki militants have abducted some civilians in Torbung Bangla.
Police commando Bigyananda told news agency ANI that our routine patrolling was going on at around 6 am when a militant group ambushed our team behind T Molkot village. We were called there for reinforcement. One person had already been injured and the other dead before we reached.

He said that the paramilitary force is present on the main road but was not at this place. However, after the firing, they helped us to evacuate our men. Earlier on Wednesday, unidentified militants opened fire on soldiers in East Imphal district of Manipur, in which an Assam Rifles jawan was injured.
Army’s Spear Corps had said that at 11 am in Dolaithabi area of East Imphal district, unidentified terrorists opened fire on troops in the area. The Army’s Spear Corps tweeted that the miscreants fled after firing a few rounds. A soldier of Assam Rifles was injured in the firing. Presently the injured jawan is undergoing treatment.
Violence broke out in Manipur
Significantly, violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 when a Tribal Solidarity March was taken out in 10 districts of the state to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. Chief Minister N Biren Singh had told on May 8 that about 60 people had died and 231 were injured in the violence that broke out in the state. He told that 1700 houses including many religious places have been burnt. There is a possibility of involvement of many extremist organizations in the violence.
