Tata-Bisleri Talks End: Tata has put an end to its efforts to buy the country’s leading packaged water bottle brand Bisleri. Tata Consumer Products, the FMCG company of the Tata Group, said in a regulatory filing that the company has decided to call off the ongoing talks with Bijleri International regarding a possible financial transaction. The company said that it has not made any definite agreement or binding commitment regarding this issue.
Last year, there were reports that Tata Consumer Products Limited is preparing to buy the Bisleri brand for about Rs 7000 crore and this conversation of Tata with the promoters of Bisleri for about two years to buy the company. was going on and the deal is likely to be sealed soon.
Bisleri’s chairman Ramesh Chauhan, who is 82 years old, has been fluctuating in his health and has no successor to take the Bisleri brand forward, due to which he is not able to expand Bisleri. His daughter Jayanti is not interested in business. That’s why they wanted to sell the business but now the company’s deal with Tata is not being done.
Ramesh Chauhan had said that the Tata group can take the Bisleri brand forward in a better way. However, he said that selling the Bisleri brand would be a very difficult decision for him. Ramesh Chauhan had then said that he is convinced of the culture, values and honesty of the Tata group. He told that many other companies are ready to buy Bisleri, they like Tata.
Bisleri has held talks with Reliance Retail, Nestle and Danone in the past but it was not successful. Talks with Tata were going on for the last two years. Ramesh Chauhan has also met Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and Tata Consumer CEO Sunil D’Souza.
