Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman made the announcement to the media after a meeting of leaders whose parties are part of the grouping headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Key coalition partners of the Pakistan government on Friday announced a sit-in before the Supreme Court on Monday to register their protest against the alleged judicial support for former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman made the announcement to the media after a meeting of leaders whose parties are part of the grouping headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Rahman said, “Today we have decided that this attitude of the Supreme Court will be opposed. I, representing the PDM leadership, appeal that the people of the entire country should leave for Islamabad on Monday. There will be massive protests before the Supreme Court.” In a major relief to former Prime Minister of Pakistan Khan on Thursday, the Supreme Court termed his arrest as “illegal” and ordered his immediate release.

Khan (70) was arrested from the Islamabad High Court complex on Tuesday and remanded by an accountability court to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) custody for eight days in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. On Friday, Rehman criticized the Supreme Court’s decision to declare Khan’s arrest illegal, saying the top judiciary was showing support to him. “Army chief’s headquarters has been attacked, corps commander’s house has been attacked…the way the country’s defense institutions are being insulted, whether the court will do anything to protect them or not,” he asked. .
