Data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed on Friday that the sub-variant has doubled over the past week. Dr. Michael Osterholm, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Minnesota, said in a recent interview with Reuters that the worst variant the world is facing right now is actually XBB.

Osterholm said that in 10 US states, where there has been a boom in the cases of Corona. There has been an increase in XBB cases. For comparison, XBB.1.5 accounted for 44.1% of total cases in the country for the week ending 31 December, up from 21.7% the week before. The XBB variant is increasing the cases of corona in some parts of Asia including Singapore. The US agency started reporting separate data for the two sub-variants from this week.
