India’s teenage grandmaster Raunak Sadhwani is tied ninth with 8.5 points after 12 rounds in the open section of the FIDE World Blitz Championship here on Thursday. In the women’s section, Grandmaster D Harika is sixth best among Indian players with 6.5 points after nine rounds. International Master B Savita Sri, 15, the 15-year-old Indian woman who won a bronze medal at the World Rapid Championships on Wednesday, is tied 69th after nine rounds. Meanwhile, Sadhwani registered seven wins and three draws in the open category.

They faced defeats against lower-ranked players Yevgini Nazir and Denik Lajavic. India’s Grandmaster Nihal Sarin is placed 19th with eight points while Arjun Erigey (7.5 points) is placed 35th. In the women’s section, veteran player Koneru Humpy (five points) is 44th while Tania Sachdev is 10th with six points. Padmini Raut is also at 19th position with six points. Hikaru Nakamura of America is leading the Open category with 10 points. World number one Magnus Carlsen has collected nine points along with four other players. Nakamura is unbeaten in 12 rounds so far. Carlsen has also not lost a game but has drawn the last five games. In the women’s section, Russia’s Valentina Gunina and Polina Shuvalova are on top with 7.5 points after nine rounds.
